Book Review: Everything Is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo

We kicked off 2020 with the launch of an internal book club at ABJ, and our first read was everything I could’ve asked for. Marie Forleo’s Everything is Figureoutable literally lay the perfect groundwork for me and this new year, new decade, and provided me a much better strategy to face my own life’s new chapter with.

I’ve always faced situations I’m not particularly versed in with optimism and assuredness, even if I was slightly terrified that I might fail in it. That’s just the way I am. But I’ve also never been in the situation I am now, where I’ve been thrown multiple life-changing circumstances at once. I definitely needed some guidance to get me through all this new territory.

It led me to spend several months consuming memoirs of people - mostly women - who reached similar points in their lives for one reason or another. The insights gained from these authors have definitely improved my way of thinking towards this “crisis.”

Book Review: 10% Happier by Dan Harris

10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works--A True Story is the #1 New York Times bestseller by Dan Harris, co-anchor of ABC’s “Nightline”, the weekend version of “Good Morning America”.

After having a panic attack on live television, Dan knew he couldn’t continue in such a way, and that he needed to make some changes. The journey that followed resulted in a book that’s helped thousands of people rewire their brains. I recently listened to the audiobook of 10% Happier, and wanted to share my thoughts about what makes it a must-read.

Founders Need to Ask for Help - Even Though It's Terrifying

As an entrepreneur, asking for help is hard. It’s also scary.

We live in an age where we are bombarded by the highlight reels of others - our peers, our role models, our perceived rivals. In many ways, social media simply represents platforms that enable mass manipulation, the chance to weave a narrative that is surely partially true, but rarely, if ever, tells the whole story.

Startup Culture Shock: The Joys of Leaving Corporate America

Startup life isn’t for everyone - like any career, it has its ups and downs. It's secure in some ways and less in others. Overall, though, it has improved almost every aspect of my life.

As the social media manager for A Better Jones, I don’t just manage clients accounts, I also get to manage a system I created from scratch and fine tune it for performance, every day. I’m not just a piece of the machine that does what he is told, and on other people’s schedules. Rather I am a valued member of a team where I am allowed to innovate, research, and work when I want, how I want, and my ideas are always heard.
